A major revelation from former President Donald Trump’s diplomatic circle has stunned foreign policy analysts, after Steve Witkoff, Trump’s U.S. Special Envoy, suggested that a lasting peace between Russia and the United States might be within reach—not through military power, but through commercial cooperation.
Appearing on Fox News’ Hannity, Witkoff shared details of a multi-hour meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating there’s now a clear direction that could reshape U.S.-Russia relations and potentially bring stability to Eastern Europe.

Exclusive Talks Reveal Putin’s Peace Request—And A Business Blueprint for Stability
Witkoff confirmed that his latest meeting with Putin—the third in a series—was particularly significant, lasting nearly five hours and involving two top Kremlin advisers: Yuri Ushakov and Kirill Dmitriev.
“Putin made it clear—he wants a permanent peace deal,” Witkoff stated. “And beyond the ceasefire, we finally got an answer about what that could look like.”
What’s emerging is a multi-layered peace strategy that goes far beyond territorial disputes in Ukraine. At the heart of this new diplomatic effort is a proposed economic collaboration aimed at creating mutually beneficial partnerships in high-value sectors like rare earth minerals, energy, and Arctic development.
Can Business Partnerships Stabilize Global Tensions? Trump Envoy Thinks So
According to Witkoff, the foundation of the potential peace deal involves not only territorial compromises but also economic incentives for Russia to align more closely with the West’s trade systems.
“There’s no NATO expansion, no Article 5 threat—it’s about diplomacy, security protocols, and business,” Witkoff explained.
He believes the integration of Russian-American business ventures—particularly in strategic industries—can act as a stabilizing force for the region.
“Commercial opportunity is the gateway to peace. Partnerships create stability,” he emphasized.
Arctic Resources and Rare Earth Minerals: A New Battleground for Influence
Behind closed doors, discussions have reportedly included joint investment strategies in the Arctic—a region rich with untapped natural resources—as well as cooperation over rare earth mineral mining, an area where Russia holds massive potential.
This approach could prove transformative, especially as the West seeks to reduce reliance on China for these critical resources. It also aligns with Trump’s long-standing promise to “end endless wars” and “put American interests first” through economic strength, not endless intervention.
Violence Persists While Diplomacy Develops
Despite the hopeful tone, the Russia-Ukraine war rages on. Over the weekend, two Russian missiles struck a northeastern Ukrainian city, leaving 34 civilians dead, highlighting the urgency for a diplomatic breakthrough.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian envoys recently met with Washington D.C. officials in an attempt to revive a mineral agreement previously discussed under the Trump administration. The earlier proposal, which involved President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, collapsed in February—but with Witkoff’s new talks gaining traction, fresh negotiations could be on the horizon.

Is Trump’s Peace-Through-Commerce Plan a Game-Changer?
While critics remain skeptical of Russia’s intentions, others say Witkoff’s approach could reshape how international diplomacy is conducted—prioritizing commerce, collaboration, and pragmatic solutions over ideology.
As Trump positions himself for a potential return to the White House, this strategy might become a central plank of his foreign policy pitch—offering voters an alternative to prolonged military entanglements under the Biden-Harris administration.
If Witkoff’s optimism proves well-founded, the next chapter in U.S.-Russia relations might not be written on the battlefield—but in boardrooms, trade agreements, and energy deals.
