Trump Slams GOP Senators for ‘Disloyalty’ Over Tariff Stance

President Donald Trump has publicly criticized four Republican senators for what he describes as betrayal over their stance against his tariff policies targeting Canada. In a fiery Truth Social post, Trump blasted Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Rand Paul (R-KY), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), and Susan Collins (R-ME) for refusing to back his plan, accusing them of playing into the hands of Democrats and drug cartels.

Trump’s Harsh Words for Senate Republicans

“Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Rand Paul, also of Kentucky, will hopefully get on the Republican bandwagon, for a change, and fight the Democrats’ wild and flagrant push to not penalize Canada for the sale, into our Country, of large amounts of Fentanyl,” Trump wrote.

He continued, “They are playing with the lives of the American people and right into the hands of the Radical Left Democrats and Drug Cartels.”

Trump also dismissed a Senate bill opposing the tariffs, calling it a Democratic ploy to expose Republican weakness. He insisted the bill was doomed to fail, as the House would never approve it, and he would never sign it.

Trump Urges GOP Voters to Pressure Their Senators

Trump urged Republican voters to take action, stating:

“To the people of the Great States of Kentucky, Alaska, and Maine, please contact these Senators and get them to FINALLY adhere to Republican Values and Ideals.”

He accused them of being “extremely difficult to deal with” and “unbelievably disloyal” to the party and Senate Majority Leader John Thune.

Senators Defend Their Opposition to Trump’s Tariffs

Senators Collins and Paul have backed a resolution introduced by Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) to terminate Trump’s tariff declaration. Collins has denounced the tariffs as a “huge mistake”, while McConnell and Murkowski have remained largely silent on the issue.

The tariffs are scheduled to take effect on April 2, a date Trump has branded as “Liberation Day.”
