The brewing feud between former President Donald Trump and Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has reached an explosive level — and according to Senator Ted Cruz, Trump’s private reaction was even more intense than many expected.
While political commentators and media outlets continue to dissect the public fallout between these two powerhouses, Sen. Cruz (R-TX) provided a firsthand account that sheds new light on the Oval Office drama.
During a recent episode of his podcast, Verdict with Ted Cruz, the Texas senator revealed that he was physically present in the White House when Trump received Musk’s provocative tweets.
“I was sitting in the Oval as this unfolded. Trump was pissed. He was venting,” Cruz said. “The tweets were coming in, and Elon was saying some really harsh things.”

The situation escalated quickly as Musk criticized Trump’s “big, beautiful” reconciliation bill, calling it “disgusting” and publicly urged Congress to vote against it. In a fiery string of posts, Musk also claimed credit for past Republican victories:
“Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,” Musk tweeted.
These remarks appeared to infuriate the former president, who reportedly felt betrayed by a man he once praised as a “visionary.”
According to Cruz, who maintains personal relationships with both men, the fallout is not only political — it’s personal.
“These are two men whom I know very well,” Cruz added. “They’re both good friends of mine, and seeing them at odds like this is incredibly painful.”
The escalating feud has sparked national headlines and spurred debates about Musk’s growing political influence, especially given his increasing presence on platforms like X, where he has become an influential voice on economic policy, free speech, and federal spending.
No Signs of Reconciliation
Despite speculation about whether the two titans might reconcile, Trump has made it clear that he has no interest in patching things up.
In a recent interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier, Trump dismissed any idea of meeting with Musk and went so far as to say:
“Elon’s totally lost it.”

The former president also dismissed Musk’s idea of launching a new political party, claiming strong support from GOP lawmakers and rising poll numbers that make him confident in the 2024 election landscape.
This feud is more than just a clash of egos — it may signal a larger fracture within the conservative movement, with Musk potentially aligning himself with a more centrist or libertarian political future.
Why This Matters
- Trump’s campaign for 2024 hinges on solidifying conservative support, and high-profile fallouts like this could fracture parts of his base.
- Musk’s public attacks not only damage Trump’s image but also boost Musk’s profile as a political disruptor.
- The GOP’s internal dynamics could shift significantly if major figures like Musk choose to back alternative paths or new political entities.
