President Donald Trump has addressed growing speculation about an upcoming meeting with comedian and talk show host Bill Maher, admitting that he “didn’t like the idea much” but is willing to go through with it as a favor for a friend.
Trump Expresses Doubts About Maher’s Intentions
In a recent Truth Social post, Trump explained his hesitations about hosting the HBO ‘Real Time’ host at the White House. He pointed out that Maher has been “unjustifiably critical” of both him and his administration, making the meeting a questionable decision.
“I got a call from a very good guy and friend of mine, Kid Rock, asking me whether or not it would be possible for me to meet, in the White House, with Bill Maher, a man who has been unjustifiably critical of anything, or anyone, TRUMP,” Trump wrote.
He admitted he still wasn’t thrilled about the idea but was willing to give it a chance.
“I really didn’t like the idea much, and don’t like it much now, but thought it would be interesting,” Trump continued.

Will the Meeting Lead to ‘Healing’ or More Criticism?
Trump explained why he remained skeptical, suggesting that even if Maher enjoyed the meeting, he would still publicly criticize him afterward.
“The problem is, no matter how much he likes your Favorite President, ME, he will publicly proclaim what a terrible guy I am, etc., very much like the Democrats at my recent Address to the Joint Session of Congress,” Trump remarked.
Still, Trump left open the possibility that he could be mistaken.
“Who knows, though, maybe I’ll be proven wrong?” he speculated.
The former president confirmed that alongside Bill Maher, the meeting would also include Kid Rock and UFC CEO Dana White, hinting that the gathering could be an interesting one.
“In any event, I’m doing a favor for a friend. I look forward to meeting with Bill Maher, Kid Rock and, I believe, even the Legendary Dana White will be present. It might be fun or, it might not, but you will be the first to know!”
Maher Hopes for a Shift in Political Climate
Bill Maher recently addressed the meeting during an appearance on Chris Cuomo’s podcast, ‘The Chris Cuomo Project’, stating that he hopes it could mark a “beginning to heal America.”
“Now, I don’t have some sort of complex where I think I can heal America, I can’t. Okay, let’s get that clear. I’m not going to be healing America,” Maher clarified.
Still, he saw potential value in the meeting.
“But if two guys who’ve been at each other for so long — I mean, it’s kind of a Nixon to China thing. It probably will accomplish very little, but you gotta try, man.”
