The possibility of Donald Trump seeking a third term as U.S. president has stirred up speculation, and the former president isn’t dismissing the conversation. While the 22nd Amendment bars presidents from serving more than two terms, Trump’s remarks have sparked debate.
“You know, a lot of people would like me to do that,” Trump said on Sunday. “There are, there are methods which you could do it, as you know.”
Trump Responds to Obama as a Potential Opponent
During a White House event, Fox News’ Peter Doocy pressed Trump on whether he believed Barack Obama could be a Democratic contender if a third term were possible.
“If you are allowed—for some reason—to run for a third term, is there a thought that the Democrats could try to run Barack Obama against you?” Doocy asked.
Trump didn’t hold back. “I’d love that,” he responded. “That would be a good one. I’d like that. No, people are asking me to run. And there’s a whole story about running for a third term. I don’t know. I never looked into it. They do say there’s a way you can do it, but I don’t know about that. But I have not looked into it.”

The Constitutional Barrier to a Third Term
Historically, Franklin D. Roosevelt served four terms, which led to the ratification of the 22nd Amendment in 1951, limiting a president to two terms.
For Trump to secure a third term, it would require a constitutional amendment, passing with a two-thirds majority in both the House and Senate, followed by ratification by 38 states—an almost impossible feat in today’s political climate.
Trump’s ‘Media Trap’ and the Left’s Reaction
Despite the legal obstacles, Trump’s comments have already triggered political discourse and media hysteria.
Legal expert Jonathan Turley weighed in, stating: “Trump loves to give a snake in the can to the media just to watch them open it.”
While the likelihood of a third Trump term remains virtually nonexistent, the idea alone is enough to send the mainstream media and political opponents into an uproar.
