Podcast king Joe Rogan delivered a fiery response to U2 frontman Bono after the musician made bold and emotional claims about President Donald Trump’s decision to cut USAID funding, blaming it for an alleged humanitarian catastrophe.
The controversy erupted just days after Bono’s appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” where he warned that dismantling parts of the U.S. Agency for International Development would have devastating global consequences. Bono claimed there would be “trouble” due to what he called the destruction of essential humanitarian aid programs.
But when Bono doubled down on his position during an appearance on “The Joe Rogan Experience,” alleging that 300,000 deaths may have resulted from the funding cuts, Rogan pushed back hard.

“The problem is, for sure, there have been organizations that do good. But USAID was also a money laundering operation. There’s no oversight. Billions — even trillions — went missing. No receipts, no accountability,” Rogan declared.
Rogan then referenced tech mogul Elon Musk, stating that if a public company behaved in the same way, it would be “delisted and its executives jailed.” He criticized how taxpayer dollars were being mismanaged, even beyond USAID, pointing to Department of Energy loans that lacked oversight during the Biden administration’s final transition months.
“In just 73 days, $93 billion was thrown around recklessly, with no transparency,” Rogan said. “There’s a lot of fraud. That’s the truth.”
However, Rogan acknowledged the importance of humanitarian work, agreeing that some kind of reformed aid system should exist. But he drew a firm line between effective aid and corrupt spending under the guise of compassion.
This exchange came on the heels of Bono’s earlier TV appearance where Jimmy Kimmel jokingly grilled the rock star on his political alliances, asking, “Whose side are you on, Trump or Springsteen?”
Bono quipped, “There’s only one boss in America,” referencing Bruce Springsteen. But the light-hearted tone shifted when Kimmel presented a Truth Social post from Trump questioning whether celebrities like Bono, Beyoncé, and Oprah were paid for supporting political candidates — potentially violating campaign finance laws.
Trump’s post read in part:
“HOW MUCH DID KAMALA HARRIS PAY BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN… AND HOW MUCH WENT TO OPRAH, AND BONO???”
Bono denied any wrongdoing, responding:
“U2 and I have never, ever accepted payment or performed in support of any political candidate — from any party.”
He then criticized Trump’s social platform, calling Truth Social “anti-social and not very true.” Bono emphasized that the “One” campaign he co-founded was bipartisan, and many religious conservatives who once supported Trump are now disappointed by what he called the “dismantling of mercy-driven programs like USAID and PEPFAR.”
“That’s not the America we believe in. There will be trouble,” Bono concluded ominously.
Analysis: The Battle Between Celebrity Activism and Political Accountability
The viral moment between Joe Rogan and Bono highlights a growing clash between celebrity humanitarianism and podcast-driven populist skepticism. While Bono calls for empathy and global responsibility, Rogan demands fiscal transparency and anti-corruption oversight.
Both figures command massive audiences, but their approaches differ sharply. Bono appeals to emotional storytelling and moral urgency, while Rogan leans into fact-based, accountability-driven narratives that resonate with voters tired of government waste.
