The radical left-wing website Jezebel is facing intense backlash after proudly publishing an article earlier this week in which its writers admitted to purchasing witchcraft spells and curses targeting Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, only days before he was brutally shot while speaking to students in Utah.
The disturbing piece, released on September 8, openly mocked Kirk’s conservative values and his support for President Donald Trump, while encouraging readers to join in on so-called “hexes” meant to ruin his life. Jezebel’s writers bragged about buying curses from witches on Etsy, including one titled “MAKE EVERYONE HATE HIM” and another described as a “POWERFUL HEX SPELL.”

The Jezebel article began by asking readers: “Are you interested in punishing Kirk for the years of regressive rhetoric he’s shouted at America’s youth and anyone within earshot? Here at Jezebel, we’re about to find out if there’s a spell for that.”
From there, the writers mocked Turning Point USA, falsely describing the nonprofit as nothing more than a propaganda machine for the right. They smeared Kirk as a “pawn” for conservative causes, belittling his success in mobilizing millions of young Americans to embrace faith, freedom, and America First principles.
While the piece initially claimed the writers did not want to “harm” Kirk physically, their descriptions of curses were far from innocent. They openly called for him to suffer endless frustrations, such as malfunctioning microphones, shrinking suits, and even having his “thumb grow too big to tweet.” In their words, destroying his daily life with “the collective feminist power of the Etsy coven” would be a victory.
Most disturbingly, Jezebel’s staff admitted to actually purchasing these curses — a chilling reality that leaves many conservatives questioning whether radical rhetoric is feeding into real-world violence against high-profile Trump allies.
Just days later, Charlie Kirk was shot in the neck while addressing students at Utah Valley University, a horrifying act of political violence that shook the nation. Though Jezebel quickly slapped a disclaimer onto its piece following the shooting, it refused to remove the article entirely. The note read: “Jezebel condemns the shooting of Charlie Kirk in the strongest possible terms. We do not endorse, encourage, or excuse political violence of any kind.”
But for many Americans, that statement rings hollow. Leaving up a story celebrating witchcraft hexes against a conservative leader — after he was violently attacked — reveals just how extreme and reckless parts of the mainstream left have become.
