Former Clinton pollster Mark Penn appeared on Fox Business’s “Kudlow” to reveal that the media’s anti-Trump bias is not enough to prevent Democrats from “falling off a cliff” in approval ratings.
Media Bias Against Trump Fails to Stop Democrat Freefall
During the interview, Mark Penn discussed fresh polling that underscores a major political shift. While much of the news coverage focuses on President Trump’s negatives, the underlying public support for Trump’s policies, especially on key issues like immigration, remains extremely strong.
“If I ask about Trump’s policies without mentioning Trump himself, support is at 70% to 80%,” Penn explained. “But when Trump’s name is attached, the number falls back to about 50% to 55%.“

This stark contrast indicates that Americans agree with Trump’s ideas, even if media narratives attempt to discredit him personally.
Trump’s Immigration Policies Gain Massive Popularity
Penn highlighted that the strongest areas of support are tied to Trump’s immigration agenda, handling of universities, and stance against antisemitism.
“On the core issues, Trump has overwhelming support,” Penn added, noting that Americans are increasingly backing immigration reforms championed by Trump, even if they express reservations about the former president himself.
Despite heavy media negativity, Trump’s policy initiatives resonate with voters, giving him room to grow politically as the election season heats up.
Democrats Suffer Historic Approval Rating Collapse
While Trump builds momentum, Democrats are facing an unprecedented collapse in public approval. According to Penn, Democratic ratings have plunged from the 40s down to the 30s—and even the 20s in some polls.
“I’ve never seen approval ratings drop this low,” Penn stated, blaming “self-inflicted wounds” by Democratic leaders for the collapse.
This stunning decline suggests that anti-Trump media strategies may be backfiring, as voters become disillusioned with Democratic governance rather than with Trump’s presidency.
Trump’s Path Forward: Growth Despite Polarization
While Trump’s overall approval rating currently sits around 42%, according to a recent Reuters poll, Penn argued that there is significant potential for Trump to expand his base.

Currently, 81% of Republicans back Trump’s economic strategies, compared to only 5% of Democrats and 28% of independents. Still, a growing number of Americans—45% overall—approve of Trump’s tough immigration policies.
With Democrats rapidly losing public confidence, the 2024 election could see Trump leverage popular policy positions to gain crucial independent and swing voters.
